February Overview


February is upon us and we have shifted from Social Studies back to Science, which will be a major cross curricular focus in conjunction with Language Arts, before Spring Break.  Here is the overview of the various curriculum topics we are focusing on.

1. Science: Biomes and Adaptations, including a written research report project on a chosen biome.
2. Math - Division (basic facts, as well as concepts and procedures, including multi-digit division).
3. Language Arts: Short Stories and Creative Writing, plus sentence structure and writing conventions.
4. Other ares: Spelling lessons, printing and handwriting practice, Math Games, simple French topics, Guided Reading leveled text activities, P.E. and DPA, two-dimensional Art along with basic digital music activities.

January Overview


Welcome back to class after our two week break.  Here is the monthly curriculum overview for January.

Math: Multiplication - concepts, strategies, basic facts, and multi-digit.
Social Studies: The Age of Exploration, Contact and Conflict between First Nations and Europeans, and Resources in Canada
Science: Living Things and Their Environments (this will begin towards the end of the month)
Language Arts: Writing Conventions and Sentence Structure
Reading: Guided Reading groups continue, focusing on various reading comprehension strategies
Music: Music Theory using the synthesizer and recording software on the website soundtrap.com - students log in using their SD61learn.ca (Google) account.
Visual Arts: our investigation of 2D artwork continues...
Health: Various topics regarding well being, safety and healthy living - expect Friends for Life books to come home this month, which we are just about finished with.

*For music this term, it would be very helpful if students could bring from home a spare pair of earbuds.
